DESCRIPTION:Title: “Homogeneous Bose gases driven far from thermal equilibrium” \nAbstract: Far-from-equilibrium systems are ubiquitous in nature\, such as in glasses\, active matter\, and turbulence\, but are still poorly understood when compared to the unifying description of thermodynamics for systems in thermal equilibrium. In this talk\, I will present two different types of far-from-equilibrium phenomena realised by periodically driving a box-trapped\, quasi-homogeneous Bose gas. First\, by driving the ideal gas in the presence of disorder\, the system shows subdiffusive dynamic scaling in the evolution of its momentum distribution and sublinear energy growth [1]. We show that this behaviour can be naturally understood as a random walk in energy space\, and the resulting nonthermal momentum distribution is well-described by a compressed exponential [2]. Second\, in the presence of interparticle interactions\, the system features a turbulent cascade with a power-law momentum distribution\, and its energy grows linearly until the dissipation scale\, set by the trap depth\, is reached [3\, 4]. Thereafter\, the system remains in a steady but nonthermal state. Finally\, by varying the interparticle interaction strength\, the system behaviour is shown to smoothly cross between these two phenomena [1]\, raising the possibility of systematically studying the interplay of drive\, interactions\, and disorder in far-from-equilibrium systems. \nLocation: Leibniz University of Hannover\, HITec Building\, Room 3406

Der Vortragsteil wird digital via Zoom übertragen. \nVortrag von Michael Rode: Das Mach-Zehnder Interferometer\, Rosetta-Stein der Quantenphysik  \nMach-Zehnder-Interferometer stellen eine besonders vielseitige Experimentieranordnung dar. Im Unterricht können mit ihrer Hilfe viele wesentliche Aussagen der Quantenphysik gewonnen werden. Die Spannweite reicht dabei bis hin zur Quanten-Verschlüsselung. Im Vortrag werden Konzeption und mehrfach erprobte Unterrichtsbausteine vorgestellt. \nIm Experimentierteil werden 3D-gedruckte Experimentiersets sowie die Angebote des Schülerlabors vorgestellt. Lecture by Michael Rode: The Mach-Zehnder interferometer\, the Rosetta stone of quantum physics. Mach-Zehnder interferometers are a particularly versatile experimental set-up. They can be used in the classroom to obtain many important quantum physics results. The range of applications extends all the way to quantum encryption. The lecture will present the concept and tried and tested teaching modules. \nIn the experimental part\, 3D-printed experiment sets and the offers of the school laboratory will be presented. Participants are cordially invited to try out the experiments afterwards. \n

Mit dem diesjährigen Motto „Mach doch einfach!“ erwartet das Mega-Event auf 110.000 Quadratmetern über 400.000 Jugendliche. Um den jungen Menschen Einblick und Karrierewege in die quantenstarke Region zu geben\, ist das Quantum Valley Lower Saxony und das Exzellenzcluster QuantumFrontiers dieses Jahr mit Exponaten zu Quantencomputing und hochauflösender Mikroskopie sowie Workshops zu Quantenkryptographie an der Messe beteiligt. In Halle 9 tritt QVLS als Partner der TU Braunschweig auf\, die auf insgesamt rund 300 Quadratmetern MINT-Forschungshighlights der Region\, aufbereitet fürs junge Zielpublikum präsentiert. Der Eintritt zur IdeenExpo ist kostenlos. \n\n\n\n———————————————————\n\nFrom 8 to 16 June\, Ideenexpo 2024 will be hosting Europe’s largest youth event for technology and science in Hanover. With this year’s motto ‘Just do it!’\, the mega-event is expecting over 400\,000 young people on 110\,000 square metres. In order to provide young people with insights and career paths in the quantum-strong region\, Quantum Valley Lower Saxony and the QuantumFrontiers Cluster of Excellence are participating in the trade fair this year with exhibits on quantum computing and high-resolution microscopy as well as workshops on quantum cryptography. In Hall 9\, QVLS will be appearing as a partner of TU Braunschweig\, which will be presenting STEM research highlights from the region\, prepared for a young target audience\, on a total of around 300 square metres. DESCRIPTION:Ivette Fuentes – Exploring the unification of quantum theory and general relativity with a Bose-Einstein condensate\nThe unification of quantum theory and general relativity remains one of the most important open issues in fundamental physics. A main problem is that we are missing experimental input at scales where quantum and relativistic effects coexist. Developing instruments sensitive at these scales might also help answer other big questions\, such as the nature of dark energy and dark matter.
